Capacity.org Newsletter (www.Capacity.Org). A web magazine-cum-portal intended for practitioners and policy makers who work in or on capacity development in international cooperation in the South. The site is accompanied by a printed journal and an email newsletter, which are published quarterly in English, French and Spanish. Each issue of Capacity.org focuses on a specific theme relevant to capacity development, with feature articles, reports on policy and practice, interviews and a guest column, and annotated links to related web resources, publications and events.
Capacity Development Network (Capacity-Net). An informal and external network open to development practitioners engaged in capacity development work. Members include government representatives, UN agencies, NGOs, Academia, Regional Institutions, and members of the international development community. The network was launched in February 2007 as a direct follow-up of the 2006 Madrid global event on the capacity development strategies. Capacity-Net is a moderated e-mail network hosted by the UNDP Capacity Development Group. The main objective of the network is to create an environment that is conducive to exchange knowledge and experiences between people working on capacity development issues. To request membership, send an e-mail to the Network Facilitator, Jayne Musumba or to capacity-net@groups.undp.org.
European Centre for Development Policy Management (www.ecdpm.org). Home of Capacity.org. ECDPM has done several important studies on capacity development.
IDRC Evaluation Unit, publications (www.idrc.ca/en/ev-116616-201-1-DO_TOPIC.html). IDRC’s Evaluation Unit is a pioneer in organizational assessment, evaluation of capacity development and outcome mapping.
Institutional Learning and Change Initiative (ILAC) (www.cgiar-ilac.org). An evolving community of individuals committed to increasing the contributions of agricultural research to sustainable poverty reduction. The group uses innovation systems thinking and tools to understand agricultural change processes and guide interventions to stimulate pro-poor innovation.
Organizational Capacity Assessment Tool: The Marguerite Casey Foundation Organizational Capacity Assessment Tool is a self-assessment instrument that helps nonprofits identify capacity strengths and challenges and establish capacity building goals. It is primarily a diagnostic and learning tool. Results from the Assessment can also help grantmakers deepen their understanding of the current capacity of their grantees as well as track their growth in capacity over time. http://www.caseygrants.org/documents/misc/CapAssessmentOverview.pdf
Monitoring and Evaluation News (mande.co.uk). A news service focusing on developments in monitoring and evaluation methods relevant to development programmes with social development objectives. Managed by Rick Davies, since 1997.
Programme for Strengthening the Regional Capacity for Monitoring and Evaluation of Rural Poverty-Alleviation Projects in Latin America and the Caribbean (PREVAL) (www.preval.org). PREVAL focuses on the planning, monitoring, evaluation and systematization of anti- poverty rural projects in Latin America and the Caribbean. This site has a number of useful references and tools related to organizational assessment and capacity development.
